Can we have accumulated sick time paid out at retirement ?
Sick time is designed to act as an “insurance program” for loss of income while sick. Just like home owners insurance, there is no refund when you sell your home if you didn’t have house fire or other damage during the time of your home ownership. The insurance company assumes the “risk of loss” in the event of damage in exchange for your premium payments. Sick time works the same way in that ABX Air assume the risk of loss in the event of a serious illness or accident that prevent you from earning income from your regular work. Sick time is not designed to provide a reward or windfall to healthy employees at retirement.
