Cincinnati Hospitals Update

09/27/2006

United Healthcare and the Cincinnati-based Health Alliance currently are negotiating a new agreement for providing health coverage under the United Healthcare network. The current agreement expires on Sept. 30, 2006. As reported in the Sept. 22, 2006, edition of the Cincinnati Post, it is unknown at this time if the two parties will reach a mutually acceptable agreement before the expiration of the current agreement. If the two parties are unable to reach an agreement, beginning Oct. 1, 2006, services at Health Alliance facilities would be covered at the out-of-network level for non-emergency care. Emergency care would still be covered at the in-network level.

The Health Alliance facilities potentially affected by this include:
Jewish Hospital Fort Hamilton Hospital
Christ Hospital University Pointe Surgical Hospital
University Hospital Deerfield Medical Imaging
St. Luke Hospital East Red Bank Surgery Center
St. Luke Hospital West Alliance Primary Care

United Healthcare is negotiating on behalf of employers in an effort to help keep health care costs affordable for both employers and employees. ABX Air supports these efforts. It is unknown at this time if the two parties will be able to successfully reach a new agreement. In the event a new agreement is not reached, employees seeking care in the Cincinnati market after Sept. 30 should consider using other in-network facilities.

The following Cincinnati-area hospitals are not affected and remain in the United Healthcare network:

Clinton Memorial Hospital

Mercy Western Hills

Highland District Hospital

Deaconess Hospital

Fayette Memorial Hospital

St. Elizabeth Medical Center North

Bethesda North Hospital (TriHealth)

St. Elizabeth Medical Center South

Good Samaritan Hospital (TriHealth)

St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County

Mercy Hospital Anderson

Mercy Hospital Fairfield

Mercy Hospital Mt. Airy

Middletown Regional Hospital

Mercy Hospital Clermont

In addition, in-network hospitals in the Dayton and Columbus markets are not affected. Employees with questions about the network providers can call United Heathcare at (888) 350-5607 or visit www.myuhc.com. Additional updates will be provided as they become known.
