Benefits Advisory Team

Summary of Meeting on February 25, 2003

On Monday, February 24 a total of 11 members of the Advisory team, Human Resources staff and Purchasing traveled to Chillicothe, Ohio, to tour the Mead Family Medical Center. Much of today's meeting was spent discussing the pros and cons of ABX starting our own on-site health care clinic.

Everyone that made the trip was very impressed with the facility and the management team. The facility treats approximately 60% of Mead’s Chillicothe employees with 80% using the pharmacy.

At this facility the doctors and nurses are very involved in the total care of the employees and actually followed the progress of certain employees to help them stay healthy. (Example: those with diabetes.)

Initially there was some negative impressions from the local physician community but after several months, once all realized the benefit of the facility, they were well received.

A request for proposal was sent to 10 vendors last week seeking bids to manage a similar facility here on base. The pre-bid vendor meeting is scheduled for this Friday the 28th. March 12th is the targeted date for submission of their proposals. Hopefully, a final decision can be made by April 1. If approved, the facility should be open at the end of June.

Jeff Walling stated that the employee survey results have been posted on the Benefits web site. A copy of the full survey results was distributed to members of the Benefits Advisory Team. The Team reviewed and discussed the survey results.

Next meeting is March 3rd at 0800.
