Employee Benefits Advisory Team
Summary of meeting on January 21, 2003
Jeff Walling opened with reporting that he had brought all surveys (9 boxes) with him that we have received and NO, they had not been thrown in the trash as some employees were saying. We have received 2,538 surveys and approximately 86% have been scanned as of today.
From preliminary results:
The response to the Clinic was as follows:
46% likely to use
25% don’t know if they would use
26% are unlikely to use
PTO
40% agree with the concept
39% disagree
Approximately 70% of employees have access to the internet.
Townhall meetings are being scheduled now for the last week of January and the first week of February. Joe Hete will talk approximately 10 minutes about the financial state of the company to be followed by presentation of why we are doing this, then question and answer.
Survey results as well as Advisory Team minutes will be posted on the website.
Jeff presented the proposal for an onsite clinic that was given to Carl Donaway last week and stated Carl has given the ok to go out for quote but to also get quotes on a family clinic with pharmacy. The pharmacy addition will add considerable cost and since we don’t know what we are competing against for capital money, we are trying to keep the cost down with the idea of expanding later as needed.
Open comments on survey:
What about singles… The survey was geared to families
Since single coverage is $25 per month, why not charge $25 per person per month for families, the more they have the more they pay.
Flexible spending account (pre-tax) question..Was it fair? Survey does not have enough info or details for employees to respond.
PTO questions vague- Steve Sager said there was not yet a plan to give more detail
Employees are fearful to respond for fear they may cause a change without understanding what they agreed to.
There was a discussion on occurrences. Seems 5-6 occurrences is actually 10-12 days of absence. According to our records each occurrence at ABX averages 2.14 days of missed time. Some feel comparison to national average not fair.
Jeff announced that he would like the Healthcare committee members to visit one of the clinics with him to see the work of the one of the vendors trying to get the job.
It was asked if ABX union employees will be made to pay what the rest are paying for healthcare. Jeff reported they are in negotiations at this time and these costs are one of the issues.
