Frequently Asked Questions #2
Q. Do Garcia employees working in the sort have health care coverage? Could they use the ABX clinic, if we get one?
A. No, the Garcia sorters are not covered under the Airborne Health Plan. Because they are not employees of ABX they cannot be covered under our health plan. If a health care clinic is built, it would initially be limited to ABX employees and possibly ABX employees’ families. In the future if the health care clinic's business plan warranted, the clinic may consider opening to other employers in Wilmington.
Q. Would an ABX clinic have equally qualified doctors to what Clinton Memorial Hospital has?
A. The clinic would be staffed with the highest quality medical personnel. As part of the contract with ABX, the vendor would be required to staff the facility with the highest standards for a primary care clinic.
Q. Publish survey results (and percentage of participants) so employees can compare them with the final benefits package.
A. The survey results will be published for employees to review.
Q4. How are the Benefits Advisory Team members going to disseminate meeting information?
A. To be discussed by the Benefits Advisory Team.
Q. Would it be possible to apply Star Bonus money towards health care premiums if an individual so desires? If so would it be on a pre-tax basis?
A. A number of employees have expressed the desire to apply the STAR bonus to the health care premiums. The company is reviewing the options and the impact this could have on customer service. Due to the administrative difficulties it is unlikely that each individual employee would be allowed to make an election on a case-by-case basis.
Q. Consider extending the waiting period for health care benefit to start for new hires. So people don’t get hired just to get a medical procedure covered and then quit.
A. Recently the company changed the initial enrollment waiting period for part-time new hires from 60 days to 120 days.
Q. Is United Health Care screening claims for pre-existing conditions?
A. Our health plan does not have any pre-existing condition restrictions. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountable Act of 1996 effectively makes it very difficult to impose pre-existing condition restrictions on new hires. Because of these restrictions no cost savings would be achieved by limiting pre-existing conditions.
Q. How is United Health Care verifying legitimate family members?
A. Generally, United Health Care (UHC) relies on the dependent data that is supplied by ABX. In the case of college age children, UHC may request proof of full-time enrollment from the college or university. ABX requires newly married employees to provide a copy of their marriage certificate.
