Long-Term Disability (LTD)

ABX Air Inc. provides non-bargaining full-time employees a long-term disability plan.

Eligibility is after one year full-time employment with ABX Air. ABX pays the full cost of this program for employees. This benefit is insured and administered by The Hartford.

The benefit begins after 26 weeks of disability. The benefit equals 60% of your pre-disability base earnings up to a maximum of $10,000 per month. The monthly benefit is offset by other income benefits you may receive. You are considered disabled if you are unable to perform any of the material and substantial duties of your own occupation.

After long-term disability benefits have been paid for 24 months, you are considered disabled only if you are unable to perform the material and substantial duties of any occupation for which you are reasonable fitted by education, training and experience.                                            -or-

You are unable to perform all the material duties of your own occupation but you are performing at least one of them or are working in a different job and you are earning at least 20% less each month than your indexed monthly base pay.

Note this does not mean that your LTD benefits will stop after 24 months. If you are totally disabled and unable to work any job, your benefit will continue to age 65 (or your Social Security retirement age if later) as long as you remain disabled.

If you are medical able to work in some capacity then the LTD will continue to provide you a supplemental benefit provided your income is 80% or less than what you were making before you became disabled. This ensures you and your family have financial security in the event you become partial disabled and can only work part-time or work in an occupation that pays less. The Hartford also offers extensive rehabilitation services if you are unable to return to full duty in your own occupation.
