Once the divorce is finalized, your ex-spouse can no longer be covered as a dependent under the ABX Air health insurance program. You must notify the ABX Benefits Department within 30 days of the divorce or you could be liable for claims paid by the insurance company for your ex-spouse. To drop your ex-spouse, you must first send a copy of your divorce decree to the Benefits Department (you only need to include the front page and the page where the judge signed or it is stamped as filed by the court clerk). The address to send it to is listed below. You will then need to log into Employee Self Service and request a form to be opened under benefit changes, once the Benefits Department has received your divorce paperwork, your request for a form to be opened will be approved in self service, you will then need to log back in and remove your ex-spouse and make new benefit elections.
The ex-spouse has the right to elect COBRA coverage to continue his/her health insurance for a period of up to 36 months. The ex-spouse is responsible for paying the full COBRA premium for the coverage. To obtain COBRA coverage, the employee or the ex-spouse must contact the ABX Benefits Department within 60 days of the divorce. If you fail to contact the Benefits Department during the 60-day notice period, COBRA coverage cannot be elected.

Warning: Your ex-spouse cannot remain on ABX Air insurance even if the court orders you to provide health insurance. If you are required to provide insurance for your ex-spouse, you may elect COBRA coverage for the ex-spouse. You may also want to check with your insurance agent for other options. Leaving your ex-spouse enrolled in the ABX Air insurance program (other than under COBRA) is insurance fraud and you could be held liable to repay ALL claims paid to your ex-spouse. Insurance fraud is a felony and subject to criminal prosecution.
