CAP/401(k) Survey Employee Comments

Although I am currently ineligible to participate in CAP/401K PLAN, I would like to have the features available. Perhaps, you could look at Boeing’s retirement/401K PLAN. I believe they are managed by State Street Investments & have most of the "plan features" mentioned above.

This survey is long overdue! Thanks!! I would love web access, daily valuations and changes but the most important is more high risk options. I.E. Technology & Communications Fund, Bionics Fund. Etc. I would be glad to assist if you’d like more input.

Love the Internet idea (Web features). Would be great if ABX could do that.

The ability to have numerous investment choices, immediate access to account current balances, and make immediate changes is a must. Internet and/ or phone access.

Your survey is designed for us to answer "very important" to all questions. When wishing for something, wish for the best of everything. Automated Internet information is cheap to produce. A vendor should lower the rates for this service.

I’m all for the best possible services available. However, I can’t see wasting money for those services that aren’t really necessary for the majority of 401k participants.

ABX 401k has made significant advancements during the last 15 years. Thank-you for the improvements.

I disagree that there is a trade-off between high performance and good information, verses the cost of fees. Many companies out there, such as Vanguard or American Century, offer great performance, great services and modest fees. The main problem with our 401k plan (the last few years ) is below average returns.

ABF only Stock Fund. We no longer have the profit sharing option, so there should be no problem with letting us invest a significant amount in our company.

I voted daily investment changes very important because I would like to be able to change investments more than quarterly. I have participated in other plans that allowed "monthly" changes and would be satisfied if that were implemented into our plan.

Need higher risk/higher earnings investments. Info on fund managers, experience and track record.

The company should always strive to keep expenses low. I don’t feel that many more adjustments are needed now that the changes implemented in 1999 are in effect. I think the only fund addition should be a "Total Stock Market Index Fund". This would be even better that the "Index" Fund available today which mimics the top 1000 stocks.

I would like to see the company allow us to increase as well decrease our contributions % on a more frequent basis. The increase period (first of each quarter) is too long. Allow us to increase the contribution % at least once per month.

Many companies now match 70 cents to $1.00. Would like to see ABX provide that type of benefit.

Would like to see some specialized funds, such as Tech , Science, Health etc. And/or a fund where we can pick from a list of individual stocks.

Would like to see Web access.

Internet access would be great!!! Please consider it!!!

Unsatisfied with 401k at the present time.

401 k is a long term investment opportunity that should not require daily monitoring by investors, that is why there is a fee to pay the professionals to do this. Keep cost of fee low to increase profits.

Daily changes is asking for trouble.

Keep the cost low.

As long as we have good solid investments and the ability to retrieve account information I do not see the need for extras that will cost us more money. The one area I am happy to see improved is the account information updated more promptly than before. It has been taking much too long in the past to hear this info on the phone system.

For the (ESPP) Employee Stock Purchase Plan, The employee contributor should be able to have the money taken out every paycheck as it is done now. But change it so you can "lock" a price when to buy, so its able to buy more share when the price is lower. For example, purchase my stock at $16.00 a share or less. Hold my money contributions until it drops to that level.

Daily updates for this type of account is ridiculous. However, giving more detailed and timely information for those that are trying to allocate all assets would be helpful.

Provide clear synopsis for actual dollar amounts deposited, investments earned & lost. Eliminate obscurity to current system for return summary.

Recommend more Index Funds (stock & bond). Recommend the ability to invest a portion of the account in individual Stocks, Bonds, etc. (more freedom). Recommend a money market fund in addition to the Stable Value Fund.

I don’t feel a daily report is [needed] as an overall monthly or quarterly report may be. The changes would be minimal daily and cost of this daily report would defeat its purpose.

I like the idea of my money going into the Markets faster. I didn’t like my money earning interest for someone else for months on end.

Please get rid of Frank Russell and get a professional firm such as Janus, American, Vanguard, Merrill Lynch or T. Rowe Price.

I’m looking for optimal performance with the ability check balances monthly.

I believe that Web access would be good since the web is a part of everyday life now. It would be much easier and more user friendly.

Have you checked with Fidelity and Scudder? I have had a positive experience with both.

Once a loan is paid off, it should not take up to 3 months before that final payment is applied and the system reflects it.

Please, Please, Please, find a company that can makes money. Why are we losing money in the stock market? This is my Retirement money.

The least amount paid to anyone other than me is extremely important. The performance of the investment is very important obviously because that has to do with the ultimate bottom line. *Compound my money*

I believe you usually get what you are willing to pay for, I wouldn’t be opposed to pay more to get a higher return on my investments. (As it is said, it takes money to make money). Can we do better with another Company managing our account?

If Frank Russell had a competitor I believe they would work harder at making us money, to keep the contract. The ability to self direct money.

I still think that the best change to 401k would be for Airborne to provide more matching funds.

Like 100% matching up to 6% of income.

I very much desire the ability to have a choice of "self-directed" investment options, to where I would be able to choose my own individual securities.

In my opinion, the fee question as far as costs depends on the returns. I personally am willing to pay high fees for high returns. I have not been impressed with Russell’s’ management of our 401k. In comparison to my wife’s 401k, the Russell managed 401k returns are at a rate of 60% less than my wife’s. I feel that who ever is overseeing my interests in this 401 k is under performing.

You get what you pay for. Increase the fees for better investment performance. And more services. I also would like to see company increase its match. Our 401k compared to other is underachieving.

It seems like who ever is running our investments is not doing a very good job. Our returns are very low.

Do not allow Internet access.

If we have a better investment company that would invest our money wisely. We would not mind higher fee. It is a shame when the stock market was at the highest yield the past 10 years and our CAP program has grown very little.

Increase company match.

Out of all these questions the single one that intrigues me the most is Web access. I’ve never checked my account because I don’t take time to get on the phone, but I do spend a good amount on the Web. It would be more convenient.

Daily distribution of valuations would not be necessary but Web access would leave it to my discretion.

I would suggest that we go with Fidelity for our 401k investments.

Daily changes are not very important but changes once per quarter is too long.

Would like to see the S&P 500 Index added to Fund options.

We’ve been happy with the management company’s performance- returns and fees have been reasonable for us. My main concern was the lag time at the end of the month to get that months returns and you have addressed that. Keep up the good work! Thanks.

ABX is a large growth company. So the 401 k program in a professional manner; daily access on the Internet, daily changes, professional choices.

Would like to see where we have the ability to make changes on a daily basis on what % to invest or not to invest instead of being locked into a quarterly basis.

Monthly reports would be nice.

Only if we could get daily fund updates would this be important to me. With only monthly updates, not important.

Web access most important.

I would like Internet access, but not at a price of tripling the fees!

I would like to be able to choose specific funds from several of the Mutual Fund Companies.

Keep costs low, investments high.

Fund options are adequately broad enough as is. Don’t see value in daily fluctuations for long term investment.

Like more information on calculating monthly income and other retirement options, including early retirement, what to do with money at time of retirement.

This is a chance investing. Each fund option does not promise a return on the investment. What is so wrong with me being able to direct the funds into: a CD or US Treasury Bill, etc. That would pay off every time.

We should have the ability to invest in individual stocks of our choice.

One option should be a personal choice fund where you can invest in Stock, Bonds, Mutual of our choice.

Rather than having the cost of the distribution of education pamphlets, I would prefer seminars at ABX so that we may ask questions at least every other year.

Would like a 50% match from Airborne, otherwise, the plan is great.

I feel that the company needs to look at a investment corp. that allows you to track mutual funds on a daily basis and to know the high and lows of funds that the company invests in that day. Paper like the USA.Today.

All of these are very important. Every good salesman knows to word his questions so he gets yes. What we’d like to see is that our 401 k funds are put into markets that make money. Airborne 35 cents contributions helps cover loses. But is this acceptable to you? I have two 401 k’s from previous employees. Both have had few twist and turns but both make money. I have one at Vanguard and one at Merrill Lynch. And they are profitable. Please find us a company that can turn a profit and we will be happy. It’s good of you to ask. Thank you.

Good survey and hope to see some changes. This has been needed for some time. However before making changes people need more info on the pros and cons of the changes will have on accounts. (Some changes would allow individuals to almost become their own banker, which is not good for individuals if they are not educated. )

More information about each fund should be readily available. Many of us would like to have more information on specifics of the opportunities available. Currently, our investments are based on past performance and the type of fund. Our money should be placed into investments based on all available facts concerning these funds.

Would like ability to accelerate loan payoff by increasing deduction on quarterly basis. Would like investment % changes to go into effect by following pay period rather than 1st of next quarter.

I would like to see Frank Russell invest my retirement funds more aggressively, it seems that my account have shown a loss in the past year’s, and I have moved my [allocations] several different times. I still do not feel that I will retire with a great amount of money in my account. Thanks for listening.

Would like to see changes made more often than quarterly.

CAP loans are a definite advantage.

Definitely do not want to have additional services added that will make the maintenance of our funds cost more. Like the 0.5% [fees] for the entire plan!!!!!!

Since 401k is for long term. The current reporting at once per month is adequate, and the phone system easy to use. Web based reporting leaves out those without easy access to Web. I do not want to suffer high management fees and performance on my long term use of the 401k so others can check their performance daily and make a lot of transactions that reduce overall performance. They should invest this play money elsewhere.

I believe the percentage of deduction should be able to be changed monthly. My finances change more often than quarterly. This is very important. Many people believe the same way.

Long term performance is most important. Low fees are a critical part of long term performance.

One thing I have trouble is with the semi-annual statement. It is hard to compare between my contributions and the company’s contribution. There needs to be a more simpler way to express values of each account. This would make it easier to compare between a employees contribution and the company contribution. Also this is a example of how current contributions can be compared:

The sooner, the better for Internet access! Why can’t Loan Fund amounts (payoff amounts) be available in real time? This way you would not have to bother ILN to find out pay out info.

Would it be possible to allow employees to designate their On-Time Star bonus to go directly to their 401k plan? It would be nice for employees who can’t regularly afford to invest

The performance of this program has been very poor. Everything was negative for the last quarter. I could have done better with a savings account.

How much additional money will this cost. On top of the amount that is already paid for fund management. How often does Airborne make their contributions to the 401 k plan????? Is it monthly or quarterly?

Fund strategy/ low fees/ Web access/performance/ and making changes monthly are what I’d like to see.

Daily investment changes. Personally would not monitor daily however on a given day may want to make a change. The flexibility to make such changes at any time is very desirable.

Airborne Express should match up to 10% a dollar instead of 6% at 35 cents on the dollar.

More we know about our 401k plan the better we feel.

What are the chances of investing in a commodity market fund. Look at the price of gold to go up and fuel prices even more.

Even with the current funds, I think that daily valuations, daily changes, and Web access would greatly improve interest and participation. I’d also like to be able to increase/decrease my contribution level on more than a quarterly basis.

Poor performing funds our money is in. Give us the option of picking funds. This survey is asking what? That you can get us less than what we should have.

It seems our 401k is not performing well. Maybe get rid of Frank Russell. Low fees are important but if fund performs poorly any savings is lost. I believe we have enough options. Why should I buy a $1000 computer and Internet service when can just pick up the phone and dial toll free. Daily valuations will lead to daily investment changes. I believe this is not a good idea. As we have seen with day trading very few people make any significant amount of money, and even less manage to hold on to it after certain amount of time. We should be able to change contribution amounts monthly not quarterly.

Frank Russell doesn’t keep investors informed. We only know the dollar amount in our accounts from month to month. I would like to see nav’s, the number of shares I hold in each stock fund and % gain ytd. American Century Investments has a site which allows investor to see all the above. I would also like to see a few choices in investment companies...Fidelity or Janus. I think we need to all add a prime money market account to your options.

The Web Site is a very good idea.

Let’s get rid of this white elephant we’re sticking our money in now and go with Fidelity where you can track in the business section of newspaper, or Internet and change our funds around on a daily basis or get our balance on daily basis.

We need a self-directed option to get the most out of our 401 k assets. Leave losing the money worries to me. One of the new options should be self-directed, that way all investment vehicles would be available to the employee. I would like to see a large company with well known name like Fidelity, Merrill Lynch or Schwab.
