November is Open Enrollment
11/1/2000
November is Open Enrollment month for health insurance. Health insurance costs have increased 15% over last year. Airborne will absorb the entire cost of this increase, allowing the employee contributions to remain the same in 2001. The $10 doctor office co-payment and $7 generic and $15 brand name prescription co-payments also will remain the same. This is a significant financial commitment by ABX for our employees. ABX will spend an additional $3.4 million in 2001 on employee medical claims for a total of $27 million.
If you wish to make changes to your health insurance coverage, you should complete the Group Insurance Enrollment/Change Form and return it to Human Resources no later than November 30, 2000. All changes will be effective January 1, 2001.
Employees may elect from two bundled options:

New in 2001
New features in the 2001 benefits program are:
Cole Managed Vision Benefit: Cole Managed Vision has purchased the vision insurance business previously owned by MetLife and will be providing the vision benefits for employees in 2001. Cole Managed Vision offers employees the opportunity to use preferred network providers and receive more dollars for vision benefits or use a non-network provider and receive the same benefit dollars as before. Please review the Cole Managed Vision information accompanying this memo for further details. Two new web sites:
HMO for Wilmington employees: Community Health Plan of Ohio/HMO has withdrawn from the southwestern Ohio market effective Nov. 14, 2000. The Company has been unable to find an alternate HMO that provides sufficient geographic coverage for employees living throughout southwestern Ohio. During 2000, only 18 employee elected Community Health Plan as their insurer. We will continue to monitor the local market for viable HMO options in the future.www.abxair.com/benefits: A new benefits web site for ABX Air employees is now available. This website provides a convenient place for employees to learn more about their benefits as well as obtain claim forms, enrollment forms and updates about the ABX benefits program. This site is not the web site that is being considered for the CAP/401(k) program. An update about the CAP/401(k) plan will be provided at a later date.
www.myuhc.com: This new web site from United Health Care allows you to review your personal non-medical information with United Health Care. You can check on eligibility status, claims payments, request mail order prescription refills or request replacement I.D. cards. This site uses state of the art encryption technology to ensure your privacy. The site does not contain information about your medical conditions. To use, just log on and register and United Health Care will mail you a confidential password in a few days.
Selected Infertility Treatments: Additional types of infertility treatments have been added to the list of covered procedures. In addition, the limit for infertility drugs has been separated from the treatment. Approved infertility drugs are covered up to $5,000 in a lifetime and approved treatment is covered up to $10,000 in a lifetime. The combined limit is $15,000 lifetime for both the Enhanced PPO and the Traditional Plan. This is a $5,000 increase from the benefit offered in 2000.
Group Universal Life: The optional Group Universal Life program has lower rates in 2001. See the Group Universal Life section in the 2001 Benefits Handbook for details.United Health Care PPO Directories
Employees may obtain updated United Health Care PPO directories at no cost to Airborne by calling United Health Care customer service at 1-888-350-5607. This information is also available on-line at www.myuhc.com or at United Health Care’s regular website at www.providers.uhc.com. The first web site will take you directly to the correct provider listing after you have registered and received your password. If you use the second web site be sure to select "Options PPO" under the product selection.
By providing PPO directories upon request only instead of mailing every employee an updated directory, the Company will save over $30,000 in distribution and mailing cost. Remember it is still your responsibility to make sure that the provider you are using is participating in the network in order to receive the higher benefit level. If you are using a provider for the first time or if you are unsure if the provider is in the network, be sure to ask United Health Care.
Employee Contributions
As previously mentioned, the employee contributions will remain the same in 2001 despite a 15 percent increase in cost. ABX will absorb the entire cost increase of $3.4 million. The monthly employee contributions are:
