Premium Pay
Policy

Premium Pay Policy
Overview
ABX recognizes the need to additionally reward our people who are skilled in
specialized areas. This is done by means of premium pay, typically on an hourly
basis.
Core Requirements
Hourly and non-exempt employees who are required to have certain special
skills are eligible to receive additional premium pay. When these employees move
to a position that does not require the skills, they no longer will receive it.
Typically, premium pay is paid for all hours worked in an employee’s
regular position. However, premiums may be paid on an ad-hoc basis to an
employee who is filling in for an employee who is absent.
Employee Responsibility
 | Employees are responsible for providing evidence of any required training or
certifications to the company. |
 | Employees must perform recurrent training, where required, in order to
retain their premium pay. |
 | This policy applies to hourly and non-exempt, non-bargaining unit employees. |
Leadership Responsibility
 | Premiums will be regularly reviewed as part of the annual pay plan. |
 | Managers and supervisors are responsible for ensuring that premiums are
recorded correctly in the ATS system. |
Types of Premiums
Lead Premium
 | Only hourly positions are eligible for Lead premium. It is paid for all
hours worked in addition to the base rate at each step. |
FAA Airframe, Powerplant, or FCC Licenses Premiums
 | No more than two of these license premiums will be paid to any employee. |
 | License premiums will be paid only to employees in positions that
specifically require an FAA/FCC license. |
Inspector Premium
 | Only hourly positions are eligible for an inspector premium. It is paid
for all hours worked in addition to the base rate. |
Fuel Tank Premium
 | Available only to Aircraft maintenance technicians assigned to perform fuel
tank functions inside the fuel tanks. The premium is paid for all hours
worked. |
Crash/Fire/Rescue (CFR) Premium
 | Available only to active members of the ABX Fire Brigade who successfully
have completed the training and have kept their certification current with
ongoing training. |
 | Safety specialists are not eligible for CFR premium. |
 | CFR premium is paid for all hours worked in the employee’s regular
position. |
Haz Mat Premium
 | Available only to employees who have successfully completed the ABX
hazardous materials training course and are in a position that requires the
training. Storekeepers are not eligible for this premium because it already
has been included in their hourly step scales. |
Overtime
Premiums are included in time and one half or double time calculations.
Premium Pay When Volunteering in Sort
Premiums apply only while working in your regular position. They do not apply
to hours worked on your Volunteer Badge in the Sort unless you are using those
specific skills in the Sort.
