Shift Differential Policy

Shift Differential Policy

Overview

Hourly and non-exempt employees who are working on second or third shift receive a premium for their hours worked.

Core Requirements

  • ABX pays shift differential to hourly and non-exempt employees who work second or third shift.
  • In order to keep their pay whole while they are on vacation, holiday, funeral leave, incentive day, jury duty, etc., shift differential is paid. Shift differential is not paid when an employee uses a sick day.
  • When an employee moves to a schedule that is not eligible for shift differential, they no longer will receive it.
  • This policy applies to all hourly and non-exempt, non-bargaining-unit employees.

Employee Responsibility

  • Employees are required to keep accurate records of their worked hours by clocking in and out.

Leadership Responsibility

  • Shift differential will be reviewed regularly as part of the annual pay plan.

Definitions

  • Second Shift: The majority of hours in one job are regularly worked between 4 p.m. and midnight.
  • Third Shift: The majority of hours in one job regularly are worked between midnight and 8 a.m.

Overtime

Shift differential is not included in time-and-one-half or double-time calculations for overtime.
